Getting your visitors to comment on your blog posts is important in building your blog’s perceived value and authority in the eyes of your readers, and building your confidence as a blogger. Comments also increase the amount of content on each of your pages, which helps with search engine optimization.
I recently did a post at Web Traffic Academy on How To Pick A Good Good Website Domain Name that got about 10 unique comments, which is pretty good considering I had only launched that blog a few weeks before doing that post. These are the 5 things I did to get those comments.
1) Comment On Other Peoples Blogs. During the week after I published the above mentioned article on Web Traffic Academy, I commented on about 20 different blogs, multiple times. The majority of the comments that post got came from my commenting on other blogs. The key is to post high quality, helpful, insightful comments, not spammy ones. Write comments that add value to each post that you comment on, that the writer will be proud to display. Don’t just post on the most popular blogs you know of, read the comments on those blogs and check out the smaller blogs of the other people posting comments, then post comments on their blogs. You will get the best results by posting comments to less popular blogs as it is more of an event when they get a comment, and when you comment on theirs first the blog owner will be more likely to come comment on your blog, and you will begin top build relationships with other bloggers in your niche. Many of the worlds most popular bloggers have said in interviews that the commenting they did to hundreds of different blogs was one of the biggest factors in their initial success.
2) Create High Quality Blog Posts That Interests Your Target Audience. The better your reader thinks your post is, the more likely they will comment. As they say, Content is King.
3) Get more traffic. The more traffic you get, the more comments you’ll get. Only about 1 in every 100 visitors will comment on your posts. Get more traffic by improving your seo, posting more, posting your articles to social sites like facebook twitter, doing ppc, posting to forum, commenting on blogs, etc.
5) Add calls to actions at the end of your posts promoting people to comment. It’s also a good idea to finish your posts with a question related to the topic of your post.
Oh yea, and you probably noticed that the posts on this blog don’t have many comments
. I just haven’t had much time to blog or market during the past couple months, been working hard on preparing to launch Game Site Builder X.
Do you have any other tips on how to get more comments on your posts?
